5 and a 1/2 reasons why you shouldn’t miss the Swoop Coaching 8 Week Mindfulness Course (MBSR)

Swoop Coaching run only a few 8 Week Mindfulness Courses each year. Here are the 5 and a 1/2 reasons why you shouldn’t let it slip you by.

1. Improved work life, sex life, home life, social life

Yes. Point number 1 actually encompasses a great many factors. Mindfulness helps us to become less reactive and caught up in our own heads and to pay attention to the present moment. With practice people find that they can be mindful in most if not all aspects of their life. This means that we can be more open minded and productive at work, more in-tune and responsive in the bedroom, more relaxed and content at home, and more engaging and compassionate with friends. 8 weeks of learning and practicing mindfulness really can make changes in the brain to allow this to happen.

2. Great learning environment

You will be sharing your virtual classroom with a maximum of 12 other people. The sessions are created so that the group can learn and share from each other. Keeping the group size small means that you have the opportunity to share your experience (if you want) and ask questions. Over the 8 weeks you will find that your fellow mindfulness students will become wonderful companions who help you on your journey, and in the same way, you will be of great help for someone else and every Monday evening becomes something to look forward to.

3. Reduced stress, anxiety and changes of habit

Practicing and learning about Mindfulness, and the neuroscience that underlies it, helps us to learn about the true nature of stress and anxiety. Our habits are often a result of trying to manage or cope with unpleasant sensations. By becoming more Mindful and compassionate towards our inner experience, we can learn to reduce and soften our feelings of stress and anxiety, and we gain a lot more influence over choosing our behaviour rather than falling into a habit.

4. You are in good hands

Your course is run by Tom Powell. He has extensive teaching and coaching experience and is known for his calm, friendly and compassionate approach. He is trauma informed and holds the Mindfulness Teacher accreditation from BAMBA. An 8 week course with Tom means that you get his care and attention and he will deliver a unique course based on the needs of the group and the individuals within it.

I had been practising meditation for a while prior to the course, but this course has taught me a whole host of techniques to be more mindful and help manage day to day stress. As well as having the chance to work with a wonderful teacher, whose entire demeanour has inspired me to become more compassionate, confident and happy. - Tess Whitfield

5. Peace and Joy

The 8 week course provides practices to help us recognise and let go of what causes us stress and anxiety. This gives us space to be filled with something else. The course also focuses on finding and noticing peace, joy and contentment within our life. Far from being goals to strive for in the future, participants on the course begin to find moments of peace and joy in the everyday and even in the mundane. It isn’t uncommon for people to begin to get out and about more so they can experience more opportunities for a calmer more joyful life.

1/2. Mindfulness isn’t everything

So the previous 5 points have hinted that taking a Mindfulness course will solve all your problems and leave you with inner peace. That isn’t necessarily true. You could pursue a deep journey of mindfulness, and yet life events will still wallop you, and you will still find inner-troubles stirring in the body and mind from time to time.

You may also find that beginning a mindfulness course isn’t going to be right for you right now, especially if you are in crisis, trauma or the earliest stages of grief.

You may also find that Tom isn’t the right teacher for your needs.

The most important thing is your wellbeing. The 8 week MBSR course is fantastic, but it isn’t the only way to heal or be-well.

And this is why we make sure to chat with you before you begin the course, and you keep in touch with us during the course.
